Emerging Themes

We (SU Queensland) recently hosted a forum of key youth ministry practitioners from our state. We (in partnership with Bible Society) presented them with findings from research conducted in Australia that showed that the Bible is "not on the radar" of young Christians in our country. Together we discussed the implications of the research findings.

Several key themes began to emerge:-

1. Young people don't see older Christians living the story of the Bible with authenticity and integrity.
2. Western societies have lost the art of storytelling in the context of relationship and community.
3. Christians need to regain the power of the family/household to engage their children and young people with the Bible.
4. Leaders have failed young people by not educating them about the credibility, plausibility and relevance of the Bible in their lives.
5. We have a crisis of youth leadership.
6. Contemporary church culture is often getting in the way of effective and transformative Bible engagement.

More blog thoughts on this to follow in coming days...
